# The app

## What is Stronger Couple?

Stronger Couple is an iPhone app that helps couples practice small, steady habits that build closeness. It includes guided [weekly check-ins](https://strongercouple.app/app/weekly-check-ins), [daily appreciations](https://strongercouple.app/app/daily-appreciations), more than 200 [conversation prompts](https://strongercouple.app/app/conversation-prompts), a guided [conflict-resolution tool](https://strongercouple.app/app/conflict-resolution), shared goals, milestones, a partner quiz, date-night ideas, relationship insights and a weekly report. Some features need the optional Premium subscription. The website teaches the ideas behind each feature, and the app is where you practice them together.

## Who is Stronger Couple for?

Stronger Couple is for couples who want to feel closer, including couples going through a rough patch. It works for married and unmarried partners of any gender. It is not meant for relationships where there is abuse, threats or fear of your partner. If that sounds familiar, please visit [Help Now](https://strongercouple.app/help-now) or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 instead of using a couples app.

## Is Stronger Couple a replacement for couples therapy?

No. Stronger Couple is a practice tool, not therapy. It can help you build habits like checking in and showing appreciation, but it cannot assess your relationship or treat depression, anxiety, addiction or the effects of an affair. Consider a licensed couples therapist if you feel stuck, fight in the same painful way again and again, or feel contempt or withdrawal. Our [guide to getting help](https://strongercouple.app/library/guides/getting-help) explains your options.

## Is Stronger Couple available on Android?

Not right now. Stronger Couple is currently available for iPhone through the [App Store](https://strongercouple.app/download). There is no Google Play version yet. If an Android version launches, we will announce it on our [What's new page](https://strongercouple.app/whats-new) and update this answer. In the meantime, the free guides, prompts and exercises in our [library](https://strongercouple.app/library) work for any couple on any device.

## Does it work on iPad?

Yes. Stronger Couple can be installed on iPad as well as iPhone, and it runs in portrait orientation on both. The layout is designed around a phone screen, so iPhone gives the best experience today. Your entries sync through your account, so you can sign in on either device. If something looks wrong on your iPad, please tell us through [Support](https://strongercouple.app/support) so we can fix it.

## What iOS version do I need?

The minimum iOS version is listed in the Compatibility section of the Stronger Couple page on the App Store, and that listing is always the most accurate source. In general, keeping your iPhone updated to a recent iOS version gives you the best performance and the latest security fixes. If the App Store says your device is not compatible, contact [Support](https://strongercouple.app/support) and tell us your iPhone model and iOS version.

## Do both partners need the app?

No. You can use Stronger Couple on your own for check-ins, appreciations, prompts, goals and more. You can even start without an account, although your entries then stay only on that iPhone until you sign in. To see each other's shared entries, both partners need the app, an account and a partner link. Starting a partner invite needs Premium, but one subscription covers you both: a partner on the free plan can join using an invite code from a partner who has Premium. Our [pricing page](https://strongercouple.app/pricing) explains more. Our guide on [inviting a reluctant partner](https://strongercouple.app/library/guides/talking-to-your-partner-about-the-app) can help.

## How do I link with my partner?

You link with an 8-character invite code. One partner opens the Partner tab, taps Invite your partner, then Create my invite code, and shares it by message, email or copy and paste. The other partner opens the Partner tab, taps Enter your partner's code, and types or pastes it. Each code works once and expires after 7 days. Creating a code needs Premium. Entering one doesn't need your own subscription if the partner who created it has Premium. Learn more on the [partner linking page](https://strongercouple.app/app/partner-linking).

## Is partner linking free?

Not entirely. Creating an invite code needs Premium. If you're on the free plan, you can still join using a code from a partner who has their own Premium subscription. Once you're linked, our server shares their Premium with you, so you can use Premium features without a separate subscription. If their subscription ends or you disconnect, the shared Premium ends and you go back to the free plan unless you subscribe yourself. Only the subscriber can change or cancel the subscription. The subscription screen in the app shows the current price for your country before you pay. See our [pricing page](https://strongercouple.app/pricing).

## Can my partner see everything I write?

No. Your partner sees only what you choose to share, and only while you're linked. On the last step of a check-in, the Share with my partner switch decides whether your partner sees your mood, relationship rating and answers. Appreciations, goals and milestones stay private unless you share them. If something you try to share looks like it contains threats or abuse, it's kept private instead of shared. Sharing is part of Premium. Before you share, ask yourself whether you'd be comfortable with your partner reading it. See [partner linking](https://strongercouple.app/app/partner-linking) for details.

## How do I unlink from my partner?

Open the Partner tab, tap the options button next to your partner's name, choose Disconnect and confirm. You'll stop seeing each other's shared entries, any Premium shared between you ends, and your own entries stay in your account. You can reconnect later with a new code. To also stop that person from linking with you again, choose Block instead. They aren't told. If you feel unsafe, please visit [Help Now](https://strongercouple.app/help-now) for confidential support.

## What happens to shared data if we unlink?

Sharing stops right away. Our servers only let a partner read shared entries while both accounts are connected and neither has blocked the other, so after you disconnect or block, the app can no longer load the other person's shared check-ins, appreciations, goals or milestones. Premium shared through the link also ends. Your own entries stay in your account, and your partner's stay in theirs. If something looks wrong after unlinking, contact [Support](https://strongercouple.app/support).

## What is a weekly check-in?

A weekly check-in is a short, guided reflection on how your relationship is going. The app walks you through four steps: how you feel (a mood from 1 to 5 and a relationship rating from 1 to 10), something you're grateful for, anything that needs care, and one small focus for the week ahead. You can share it with a linked partner and talk about it together. Read more about [weekly check-ins](https://strongercouple.app/app/weekly-check-ins).

## How long does a check-in take?

Most people can finish the four steps of a check-in in about five to ten minutes, depending on how much they write. The challenges step is optional, so a quick check-in can be shorter. The conversation you have afterward is the important part, so plan a calm 15 to 30 minutes to talk it through with your partner. Our article on [how to do a weekly relationship check-in](https://strongercouple.app/blog/how-to-do-a-weekly-relationship-check-in) has a simple agenda.

## Can I set reminders for check-ins?

Yes. Reminders are free. Open settings from the profile button at the top of any tab, then Notifications, and turn on the weekly check-in reminder. You can pick the day and time. You can also turn on a Monday weekly report reminder and reminders before milestone dates. The app asks for notification permission first, and you can turn notifications off at any time in your iPhone's Settings app. See [how often couples should check in](https://strongercouple.app/blog/how-often-should-couples-check-in).

## What are daily appreciations?

Daily appreciations are short notes about something you value in your partner, like "Thank you for making coffee when I was running late." You log them in the Appreciate tab and keep them private or share them with a linked partner. Research on gratitude in couples suggests that noticing and expressing everyday thanks can boost feelings of connection. Learn more on the [daily appreciations page](https://strongercouple.app/app/daily-appreciations) and in our [gratitude research article](https://strongercouple.app/blog/gratitude-in-relationships).

## How many free check-ins and appreciations do I get?

In version 1.1.0 of the app, the free plan includes 5 check-ins and 10 appreciations each calendar month. When you reach a limit, the app tells you the date it resets, or you can upgrade to Premium for unlimited check-ins and appreciations. The free plan also includes 10 conversation prompts, 2 active goals, 3 custom milestones and 10 date-night ideas. Our [pricing page](https://strongercouple.app/pricing) compares the plans. If the app and this site ever disagree, the app is correct.

## How does the conflict-resolution tool work?

The tool, called Talk it out, starts with a short safety check, then guides you through six steps: name the topic, start gently, take turns with a speaking timer, make and accept repairs, find a next step, and reconnect. You can pause and pick up later, then mark the discussion resolved. It is part of Premium and draws on ideas like [soft startup](https://strongercouple.app/library/glossary/soft-startup) and [repair attempts](https://strongercouple.app/library/glossary/repair-attempts). If you're afraid of your partner, go to [Help Now](https://strongercouple.app/help-now).

## How does the speaking timer work?

The speaking timer helps you share talking time fairly during the take-turns step of the conflict tool. It has two timers on one screen, one for you and one for your partner. Tap the timer for whoever is speaking, and switch when it's the other person's turn. Each timer counts up, so you can both see who has had the floor longer. If either of you feels overwhelmed, pause and use our [conflict pause timer](https://strongercouple.app/tools/conflict-pause-timer) for a 20-minute break.

## What is the relationship quiz?

The Love Map quiz is a "how well do you know me" game you play on one phone. One partner answers a question about themselves and passes the phone, the other guesses, and you reveal the answer together. There are more than 160 questions across eight categories, from favorites and everyday life to worries and feelings, at three levels. Free accounts get 10 questions a week. Learn more on the [relationship quiz page](https://strongercouple.app/app/relationship-quiz) and in our [love maps explainer](https://strongercouple.app/library/glossary/love-maps).

## How many date-night ideas are there?

The app includes more than 60 date-night ideas across eight categories, such as at home, outdoors, food, creative and low-energy ways to reconnect. Each idea shows a budget and energy level. You can save favorites, then rate a date out of five and save it to your history after you try it. Free accounts can use 10 ideas and 3 favorites. For more, try our free [date night generator](https://strongercouple.app/tools/date-night-generator) or read [50 date night ideas at home](https://strongercouple.app/blog/date-night-ideas-at-home).

## How do shared goals work?

Goals let you set something to work on, such as a weekly walk or a savings target, choose a category and how often you'll work on it, then tap Log today to track progress. Open Goals from the Explore section on the Home tab. Free accounts can have 2 active goals. With Premium, you can have more and share a goal with your linked partner so you both log progress. Our article on [how to set goals as a couple](https://strongercouple.app/blog/how-to-set-goals-as-a-couple) explains a simple framework, and the [shared goals page](https://strongercouple.app/app/shared-goals) shows the feature.

## What are milestones?

Milestones help you remember and celebrate meaningful moments. You can add your own dates, like an anniversary or the day you moved in together, set them to repeat yearly or monthly, and get a reminder before they come up. Free accounts can add 3. With Premium, you can add more, share them with a linked partner, and earn achievements automatically, such as a first check-in or 10 appreciations. Open Milestones from the Explore section on the Home tab, or read about the [milestones feature](https://strongercouple.app/app/milestones).

## What are relationship health insights?

Insights, a Premium feature in the Insights tab, turn what you log into a health score, a six-week trend and tips. They cover four areas: communication, appreciation, quality time and working through conflict, and they need at least two check-ins to start. Insights are for reflection, not diagnosis. They can't tell you whether your relationship is healthy, and a low number is a prompt to talk, not a verdict. See [relationship insights](https://strongercouple.app/app/relationship-insights).

## How is my relationship health score calculated?

The score is a simple summary of your activity over the last four weeks, not a clinical measure. It averages four areas: communication (check-ins logged), appreciation (appreciations logged), quality time (prompt responses and check-in highlights) and working through conflict (the share of discussions you marked resolved). Conflict only counts once you've started a discussion. It only reflects what you've entered, so it means less when you have little data. Learn more on the [insights page](https://strongercouple.app/app/relationship-insights).

## Can I export my data or a report?

No. The app doesn't offer a file export or downloadable report. You can view your weekly report in the app, and you can request a copy of your personal data at any time by emailing us, as described on our [Support page](https://strongercouple.app/support) and in our [privacy policy](https://strongercouple.app/privacy). If an export feature ships, we'll announce it on our [What's new page](https://strongercouple.app/whats-new) and update this answer.

## Does the app work offline?

Mostly, yes. Check-ins, appreciations, goals and other entries are saved on your iPhone first, so you can write without a connection. Changes made offline wait in a queue and upload automatically when you're back online. You need a connection to sign in, link with your partner, see your partner's shared entries, subscribe, send a report or delete your account. Settings, then Backup and Sync, shows anything still waiting to upload. The in-app Help Now page also works offline.

## Does my data sync across devices?

Yes, when you're signed in. Your check-ins, appreciations, prompt responses, goals, milestones, conflict discussions, quiz sessions, date-night history and weekly reports are backed up to your Stronger Couple account, so they're restored when you sign in on another iPhone or iPad. If you use the app without an account, your entries stay only on that device. Settings, then Backup and Sync, shows the last sync. See our [privacy FAQ](https://strongercouple.app/faq/privacy) for how your data is stored.

## Can I use dark mode?

Yes. Open settings from the profile button at the top of any tab, then tap Appearance. Choose System to follow your iPhone's Light or Dark setting, or pick Light or Dark to keep the app that way. If a screen is hard to read in either mode, please tell us through [Support](https://strongercouple.app/support), including which screen it is, so we can fix it quickly.

## How do I sign in with Apple?

On the sign-in or create-account screen, tap the Sign in with Apple button, confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, and choose whether to share or hide your email. If you hide it, Apple gives us a private relay address that forwards to you. You can also create an account with your email address and a password. New passwords need at least 12 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a symbol. Use the same method each time so you return to the same account.

## I forgot my password. What do I do?

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter the email address you signed up with. If an account exists, we'll email you a 6-digit code that works for 15 minutes. Enter the code in the app and choose a new password with at least 12 characters, including an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a symbol. If the email doesn't arrive, check your spam folder and request a new code. If you signed up with Sign in with Apple, you don't have a password, so use that button instead. Still stuck? Contact [Support](https://strongercouple.app/support).

## How do I report inappropriate content?

If your partner shares something hurtful, threatening or inappropriate, find it in the Partner tab and tap Report. Pick a reason, such as Harassment or bullying or Threat or violence, add details if you like, and send it. Our team reviews every report, and you'll get a confirmation email. You can also block your partner from the options menu in the Partner tab. If you're in danger, call 911. For confidential support, see [Help Now](https://strongercouple.app/help-now).

## How do I contact support?

Visit our [Support page](https://strongercouple.app/support), or open settings from the profile button at the top of any tab and tap Support to email our team or send a Report a problem form. Include your iPhone model, iOS version, the app version shown at the bottom of settings, and a short description of the problem. Please don't include sensitive relationship details in a support email unless they're needed to solve the problem.
