# Love language quiz (unofficial)

> This unofficial love language quiz shows 15 pairs of caring gestures and asks which would mean more to you. It then ranks five ways people often feel loved: kind words, quality time, thoughtful gifts, helpful actions and physical affection. It takes about three minutes. Use it to start a conversation, not as a label, since research on love languages is mixed.

## Where the idea comes from

The idea of love languages comes from Gary Chapman’s 1992 book. It became very popular because it gives couples simple words for how they like to be cared for.

Research support is mixed. A 2024 review by Impett, Park and Muise in Current Directions in Psychological Science found little evidence that people have one main love language, or that matching languages makes couples happier. Most people value several of these. The review suggests it may be more useful to learn your partner’s specific needs over time. ## How to use your result

- Share your top two with your partner and ask about theirs.
- Turn it into one concrete request: "A 10-minute walk after dinner would mean a lot to me."
- Check back in a few weeks. Needs change with stress, seasons and life stages.

## Questions

### Is this the official love language quiz?

No. It is an unofficial quiz using general descriptions of five ways people feel cared for. It is not affiliated with the trademark owner.

### Are love languages backed by science?

Only partly. A 2024 research review found little support for the idea that each person has one main love language. Many people value all five in different amounts.

### What if my partner and I get different results?

That is common and not a problem. Use the results to learn what helps each of you feel cared for, and try one small thing from each other’s list.
