How well do you know your partner?

This free quiz helps couples see how well they know each other. Pick a level, from everyday favorites to hopes and worries. One partner reads a question about themselves, the other answers, and the reader marks it. After 10 questions you see how many you got and which ones are worth talking about. It is a game for learning, not a test of your relationship.

How to play

  1. Sit together with one phone or computer.
  2. Choose a level. Beginner covers favorites, intermediate covers stress and history, and expert covers hopes and values.
  3. Take turns reading. The questions are written about the reader, like "What is my favorite food?"
  4. After each answer, tell the real answer and talk about it for a minute.

Why it matters

John Gottman uses the term love maps for the knowledge partners hold about each other’s worlds, described in The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work (1999). Updating your love map is an ongoing habit, because people change. This quiz is our own and is not affiliated with The Gottman Institute.

The app’s partner quiz has more questions across six categories and three levels.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere, and you do not need an account.

Questions

What is a good score?

There is no passing score. Misses are useful because they show you something new to ask about.

Can we play more than once?

Yes. Each round draws a new mix of questions from the level you choose.
